MACFLY PILOTS INTERVIEWS
Tom, a true Swiss-army knife of many talents, your first job was as a helicopter flight assistant, a role in which you thrived for two years before deciding it was time to spread your own wings.
Today, you’re a workshop manager at Macfly, as well as a paramotor instructor at your school, Tom Gun Paramoteur.
How long have you been flying? What made you want to get started?
I’ve been paragliding for 11 years and flying paramotors for almost 9. Since I was a kid, I always dreamed of discovering this discipline. As soon as I had the chance to sign up for a paragliding course, I jumped at the opportunity without hesitation. Paramotoring came naturally afterwards, as a continuation of that passion.
Do you remember a flight that stood out to you because of the weather, the scenery, or the emotion?
Absolutely! It was in October 2024—on my birthday, no less. I was traveling in the United States, specifically in Utah. I met a Macfly dealer, Brad Roper, who showed me his flying playground… it was simply magical!
What Macfly gear are you flying with? And why did you choose it?
Right now, I’m flying a Macfly EFI with a 150 travel cage. Choosing this setup was an obvious decision for competition. Plus, since I travel quite a bit, the travel cage is the most practical option for packing the paramotor.
Does the people around you understand your passion, or do they think you’re crazy?
It’s more on the “they think I’m crazy” side—except for my little brother, who quickly converted to paramotoring as well. He flies a Macfly too. ;)
A final word to wrap up?
To conclude, a big thank-you to Macfly for their daily support—whether in competitions, during regular flights, or at the workshop. THANK YOU!
